I was coming down to the last few drops of shampoo and had braved several days straight without conditioner when I finally decided to hit the drugstore in desperate need of haircare replenishment. With a little research before hand and some coupon prep, I was able to score a pretty good deal on a new shampoo and conditioner in addition to some products just for fun!



Here's the breakdown of the deals I scored last week:


Since all L'oreal Advanced Haircare products were on sale 2 for $8, I decided to browse the rest of the line just for kicks. I came across this L'oreal TXT IT Tousle Waves Spray and Smooth Intense Xtreme Straight Creme and decided to take advantage of the deal. Any hesitation I may have had at this point was immediately erased by a $2 off any 1 L'oreal Advanced Haircare Product coupon that I had sitting in my wallet.


Mascara was also on my shopping list, so after perusing the makeup aisles I zeroed in on this Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara in Waterproof. It wasn't until later that I discovered I had picked up the wrong mascara color, Brownish Black. Not a huge deal, but I do prefer a "Blackest Black" color to help my lashes stand out, so I ended up returning this (since this was all they had at CVS).

Before tax, my subtotal came out to $35.09...OUCH. Definitely not money that I'm willing to shell out for just a handful of products, but like I mentioned earlier, I did my homework before heading over to CVS. With the sales of the week and some coupons by my side, my subtotal came out $15.73...BUT WAIT I also got $9.50 in ExtraCare bucks (which is essentially credit back that I can spend in the store). If you take that into account, I really only spent $6.23 for all these products! WOO! I love scoring great deals!

WAPOW, BACK ON THE BLOG! I know it's been forever and a day since I've posted here, but I'm going to do my very best to get back into it. (:

I thought an excellent way to hop back on to zhi blog would be with a haul! Not just any haul though...my IMATS LA Haul! Yay!

A few weekends back, I went to IMATS LA (International Makeup Artist Trade Show) and it was absolutely phenomenal. This was my 3rd time attending IMATS LA and I have to say, it just keeps getting better and better. After knocking out for a good 8 hours, I'm back! Haha. Daylight Savings really did a number on me. Anyways...

I created this video as part of the PopSugar Partner network. The theme was to recreate a makeup look from the Oscars. When I had been searching for which look I wanted to create, I came across a lot of gorgeous looks, but I have to say that Goodwin's stood out to me the most. 

The electric blue lid (I believe) was intentional to pair with her stunning dress and it was done beautifully without being too "matchy-matchy". The copper and chocolate brown colors help to really balance out all the blue. I feel like blue eyeshadow should be handled with caution as it can look a bit "70's" or "80's" if you will or it can come out extremely elegant as it did on Goodwin.

For Lent, I have decided to give up buying makeup...*GASP!* I know, it's crazy! I thought it would be  kinda cool to do this year because I have always given up food (meat or only having bread and water-I do not recommend doing that!). I feel like a lot of people choose to go that route as well, but we never really reflect on habits that we could really do without.

I've been doing pretty well and despite some flickering urges, I feel like I can last the whole 40 days without buying any makeup. So, in the spirit of Lent and just the satisfaction of finishing up products, here is my February 2013 Empties video:

Sorry that this post is going up late! Today's agenda was just jam-packed, but I'm home now and I figured that I could still meet my deadline before midnight PST. :) 

Here's a quick Nail Of The Day- I attempted my first ever ombre nail! 

I started off with my Revlon Colorstay Base Coat (running pretty low on this stuff, but not sure if I like it enough to repurchase) and then put on a thin layer of the Rimmel French Manicure Pro.

Using a cosmetic sponge, I layered on these three polishes in a gradient to create the ombre effect. I topped it off with my favorite top coat, Revlon's Colorstay Gel Shine.

I didn't intend for my manicure to come out "rainbow-ish", but I thought it ended up looking pretty groovy anyway. :) I'm thinking about adding little white peace signs...I've been stuck in the 70's it seems. What do you think? Should I leave it as is or have at it again? Let me know in a comment below!

Happy New Video Day! :) Woo! In this video, I share a little do-it-yourself lipstick palette:



When I first decided that I wanted to do some sort of lipstick palette, I knew I wanted it to have these 2 characteristics:

1. It needed to be freelance-friendly. I wanted all my lipsticks organized in one palette where I could easily locate specific colors and not have to sit there fiddling with each lipstick tube.

2. I didn't want to fully commit to a palette. I wanted all the perks of a palette without compromising portability. If I wanted to take one lipstick color with me, then I should be able to do so with ease. 

I watched so many YouChoob videos all featuring different variations and when I found none parallel with those preferences, I was determined to come up with one myself.

This is what I came up with. I'm really happy with how this turned out! I have taken these lipstick palettes with me on some of my freelance gigs and they have worked out quite nicely. :)
